About Removable Dentures

A removable partial denture is an appliance that replaces missing teeth while some natural teeth are present. Obviously, this is a removal option. A partial denture can replace one tooth or as many as missing. There are different types of partial dentures:

  • An acrylic denture
  • An acrylic denture with metal framework
  • Valpast – a flexible partial denture.

Dentures are certainly a time-tested technology that many people have learned to live with. Their initial investment price is relatively inexpensive, and after a period of adjustment, many find they function more or less adequate. But just as dentures themselves are familiar, so are the difficulties that denture wearers experience.

Removable dentures frequently require special cleaning, and they can build up unpleasant tastes and odors. Often, they don’t allow you to eat the foods you really like. Also, dentures invariably need to be re-fitted and re-made every 5 to 7 years because of bone remodeling and changing its shape. Another potential problem is bone loss which may eliminate you from being a candidate for implants restoration.

Don’t doubt you are the one who is going to choose your final restoration. My obligation is to give you as much information and options as possible about your choice. As long as you decision is based on facts and not emotions it will be okay with me. But frankly speaking the last time I have heard a request for removable appliance was approximately 12 years ago.
